My Biggest Mistake Kindle Edition
I always knew exactly what I wanted out of life. While my friends wished and wondered, I planned. A husband, children, even the perfect minivan--my future was a family, and I couldn’t wait to step into it. Donovan proposed right after graduation, and everything else fell into place too, right down to the van.
I should have done things differently, I know that now. I should have told someone, should have told him about the bottomless depression I fell into post-partum. Instead, I convinced myself I just needed a little time away, a small break to get my head straight. I made my biggest mistake when I gave into my demons and walked away from everything I’d ever wanted.
It took me two long years to recover, but now I know exactly what I want again. I want my family back. Donovan says they don’t want me. Don’t need me. He says he’s moved on. But the look in his eyes tells me there’s a chance, even if I have to fight.
And I’m not going to lose again.

About the author

Leddy Harper had to use her imagination often as a child. She grew up the only girl in a house full of boys. At the age of fourteen, she decided to use that imagination and wrote her first book, and never stopped. She often calls writing her therapy, using it as a way to deal with issues through the eyes of her characters.
She is now a mother of three girls. The decision to publish her first book was made as a way of showing her children to go after whatever it is they want to. Love what you do and do it well. And to teach them what it means to overcome their fears.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 October 2015This was very good definitely one of my top ten reads of this year It was riveting and had me gripped all the way through. Of course I have heard of Post Natal Depression but not knowing of anyone who has suffered from it so this book has opened my eyes to the Illness and my heart goes out to all the women who have. Congrats to the Author you could tell that she put in heart and soul into this book and deserves all the credit she gets for it and whenever I hear the Fight Song from Rachel Platten I will think of Edie and this book because it fits her story perfectly.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 August 2024I found Leddy Harper at a book signing a few months back and after reading another of her books I realised I already had this book on my kindle so thought it was time to jump in!
Edie and Donnies story is not an easy read, it is full of angst, emotions and heartache but what a story it is!
These guys had so much love for each other it was beautiful, but it shows no matter how much you love someone, depression can lead to be left feeling alone and vulnerable.
Was hooked from start to end!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 June 2016I put off reading this for a while because I thought it might be drab. Although there are necessary descriptions of Edie's depression, the story doesn't wallow in it and is much more about Edie's determination to kick its ass and repairing the very deep but fractured love between the protoganists. I loved Donnie, what a saint! I would have given this 5 stars but I think the story could have been stronger and more angsty if the situations with Beth had been handled differently.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 October 2015My heart hurt from the very first chapter. What a beautiful heartfelt read, I could feel every emotion and my heart bled for both Edie and Donnie. This story handled a very sensitive subject both honestly and delicately but got the point across beautifully. What I really have to say though is the character I most admired was Beth, we should all have a friend like her. A truly must read, you most definitely won't be disappointed X

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 July 2015Never heard of this Author before, was randomly reccomended on Facebook, and i checked it out, and thank god i did, this book is absolutely amazing, read it one morning, i cried so much and felt every bit of angst Donnie and Edie were going through. I even felt for Beth is a small way because right or wrong she was needed. This is truly amazing book and 150% reccomend it to every woman who has had children and suffered with Post Natal Depression, i never did but understand even more now what these poor woman suffer, and the families dealing with these problems. Read this book i can truly say you will not regret it. Well done and thankyou Leddy. I am now going to check out if you have other books.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 August 2015The first halve of thus book was brilliant, but then all the talking through their problems was a little bit repetitive, but on the whole a great story written about post natal depression

5.0 out of 5 stars My Soul Took A Beating Meant for A Tennis Ball
Talk about ripping out my soul and throwing it all around. I feel my soul was in a tennis match.
My Biggest Mistake is written in Edie's POV. This This is not a book for everyone. Please read the blurb and if a mother's fight to redeem herself after doing the unthinkable is something that will offend you in any way please don't one click.
My Biggest Mistake is beautifully written. Leddy Harper has taken a very difficult topic and turned it into an amazing story. She has created characters full of love, hate, lust and passion.
From the outside looking in it may seem like a couple has the perfect relationship, that the mom is the perfect mother and everyone is happy but no one sees how foggy the window is from the inside.
Depression is a horrible disease to struggle with for anyone but postpartum depression is excruciating because it is a time when you should be full of joy and excitement. Not only is the new mother suffering from postpartum depression but she suffers from so much anger with herself for not being able to control it that she punishes herself more.
Edie and Donnie have the perfect life and three beautiful children but Edie doesn't see or feel perfect anymore. She actually doesn't know how she feels other than lost.
When a lot of people feel lost they run.
After working through her weaknesses Edie knew she needed to go back to what once was her home and fight for her family. Edie knew that it was going to be painful and hard fight but she also knew she would go down trying her hardest to make things better.
Donnie hasn't gotten over the fact that Edie walked out on them but he has started to move on with his life. Pulling in to his driveway with his children and Edie's one time best friend (his now girlfriend) he is beyond shocked to see Edie? What does someone say to the love of their life after being abandoned.
Will Donnie give up his new life to go back to his heart and soul? Will he be able to forgive Edie and allow her to reform a relationship with their children? Will Donnie hold a hatred toward Edie that will punish her more than she had punished herself?
I will not spoil this book because I truly feel that this is a book for everyone young and old.
Congratulations Leddy Harper on such a beautiful yet heart breaking story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartbreakingly beautiful & loads of triggers
I came across this book a few years ago but couldn't get myself to read it right away. Pls be warned this book is definitely not for everyone. It deals with postpartum depression, abortion, abandonment, grief. All in all a very tough read for me but i still loved it!
I personally know a couple of women who have gone through severe ppd & warned by their doctors, not to have any more kids.
PPD in my opinion is a very underated issue women face - giving birth n going through a complete upheaval of your body & mind is hard enough but having to deal with depression in addition to it? How debilitating.
Yes, Edie walks out on her family and disappears for 2 years but i love the fact she chooses to come back and fight for herself n her old life. Everything has changed and ofcourse her path wasnt easy. But i did think her best friend, Beth, could have been a lil more understanding of what she had been going through. She does end up doing the right thing for Edie and Donnie but keeps reminding Edie of the sacrifices she made for her. Edie didnt ask her to in the 1st place- seemed more like she did out of guilt bcoz she knew why Edie had left. I oscillate between thinking she's a good friend and a bit off - never really taking responsibility for her own actions but constantly reminding Edie of hers. Her character is basically required to add tension to the plot & works well too.
But the story is abt Edie and Donnie finding their way back to each other, healing, forgiving, acknowledging mistakes
and moving on. Lots of mistakes are made in this story but that's how we humans are right? Flawed. I thought it took a lot of courage for Edie to come back and face her mistakes. Although things happen very fast in this book - 2 weeks- i did feel how incredible would it be for one to be able to forgive so quickly and move on in life? And if we dont give people we love a 2nd chance, we could miss out on a lifetime of happiness.
This story is one of my best reads ever. Lots of healing and things i learnt from this story and i will definitely be exploring more of this author's work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mistakes
Wow, what a raw, real and well written story. You can empathize with Edie but Donnie stole the book for me.
When life swallows you, this author not only takes you on Edies journey but how it silently affects everyone around you. Very emotional read and could relate to it on so many levels. No hearts & butterflies in this great read. Well done Leddy Harper, I will certainly be looking forward to reading more books written by you

4.0 out of 5 stars a very fabulous emotional read
what a wonderful yet emotional read this one was. As girls growing up we dream of the days we grow up and have babies that are cute and cuddly that grow into sweet toddlers that hug us and tell us how much they love us and that we are the best mommy in the world. We then grow up to become adults, have a baby and realize babies are all about sleepless nights, 2am bottles and diaper changes and a child that won't stop crying but you don't know why. It's hard and has left many including myself saying "I wanted this, I dreamed of this, I would have been devastated if this didn't happen, what the hell was I thinking" and I sat there many days wishing for just 24-48 hours to disappear to get a little bit of uninterrupted sleep and no responsibilites to feed or change a child.
This was Edie's story but so much more. She hit a breaking point and walked away from the man she loved and her children for two years, she needed to get herself in a better place and once she finally did, she realized the mistake she made and must come back to try to fix it all and hope for forgiveness. Her battle is heartbreaking and emotional, and she was so very strong not giving up her fight to get it all back. And although I could sympathize with her walking away and understood it, I can even begin to imagine what she must have went through as well as felt coming back to fight for it all, the hurt and devastation she must have felt.
This was a fabulous read, it was very well written with only a few minor typos. For the most part the story flowed well and pulled me right in from the beginning although I wished the time frame that it all played out over was longer, at times it felt too rushed and for the amount of time she was away, and the amount of hurt that was felt by all parties, it felt the healing of it all happened to quickly for me. But overall, a really fabulous story I really loved, will definitely be checking out more of this author's work.

5.0 out of 5 stars My biggest cry!
Depression is a big part of this book, and I love how Leddy Harper, has written this book, we see how both are feeling and hurting, how depression hurts not just the person, but a whole family!
